Dimension #1 – Analysis of Restaurant Example

One restaurant, three collision and chaos of three management systems

Governance -> clear evidence of dominant-three systems: chef owned creation of dining experience; hosts + waiters + cooks (staff) owned food replication and order fulfillment; and, Vinny clearly owned the funding and cashflow.
Domain -> domains appeared to be correctly delineated by nature of work!
Knowledge -> chef had expertise in food; staff had know-how to predictably deliver customer experience; and, Vinny-the-CPA clearly knows the accounting of cash’n-out.
Development -> there was some evidence of developing the restaurant as a resource; but, no evidence of developing careers of those creating experience!
Organized -> the restaurant did seem to demonstrate a fair division of labor.
Sustainable -> the system did reflect proper/differing motivations for the three different types of work; but, there was no indication of long term sustability.
Remembering that, good Management Systems govern, conserve, exploit/utilize and develop <type of resource> in a sustainable fashion, was the restaurant a good system?
Perhaps yes, if Vinny’s cash-out plan is to train the staff and chef in the business and sell the restaurant to them, then the system would have long term sustainability. Dimension #1 – Analysis of Restaurant Example. ©2018 iiSM.ORG, All Rights Reserved.
